Has A Dog The Buddha Nature?

The funny thing, is that you speak to me now of the spirit of animals, a topic that most assuredly we never discussed before and that nothing in our past communications ever hinted to - so it's truly funny because I was thinking about this topic exactly a few hours ago, maybe less than 3 hours ago.

There was this line in a buddhist text "Has a dog the Buddha-Nature?".
By "Buddha Nature" it is meant, basically, the possibility of attaining a level of (let's call It so) uncommon wisdom. Since all nature is one and also animals are undoubtedly sentient beings at least, and yet since it seems undoubtedly somewhat odd too to think of them as having the possibility of becoming even "a Buddha", thence the question in the buddhist text.

I could not remember the answer, supplied in the book, so I was thinking what could have been mine. I came to the conclusion that mine would have been: "Have you the Buddha-Nature?"

It seemed to me the right answer, and not a mere trick, to answer tsuch a question with another question, in this case.
In fact, if one responds "yes" then one should not ask such questions because a developed Buddha Nature shall answer these questions already. If one responds "no", well that's why one asks silly questions isn't it?
