Some say that laughing is the secret to stay healthy.
I think it is desperation, actually.

Most persons don't know how to suffer - we recoil from grief, instead it is a basic component of life that needs not to be merely fought, but most of all needs to be lived and faced with clear eyes. If you know how to suffer, you have more significant chances of being happy - or, at any rate, of pursuing the pursuit of happiness as a sincere pursuit rather than as a great escape from a threshold so low that we must flee whatever degree of frustration or traumatism - so that, later, we can appoint our flight with the title of happiness.

I am equating happiness with health - but in case this is judged out of topic or arbitrary, then my answer is even more pertinent: for when we speak of health alone, we speak of medicine and medicine has always been a balance between the drug perceived as a poison and the drug perceived as a cure: this is the double snake climbing around the mercurial symbol (http://www.kuthumadierks.com/articoli/siam/immagini/caduceo.jpg ); it was a symbol of medicine, but later medicine removed the second snake and kept in place, in such symbol, only one snake precisely to signify that medicine uses only "one side" of the drug, allegedly the "good" one, the curative one. And yet, the poisonous one is still there, lurking behind the dosage. So, if you want to be healthy, you must be able to face both things: the sweetness of the drug that exhalts you, and the toughness of the venom that insults you. No-body can be healthy in an aseptyc milieu. Si vis pacem para bellum, if you want peace prepare war - and if you want health, brace yourself to cope with grief without being immediately neither crushed nor petrified.
